First Swimming Lesson

OMG SO cute! Just 6 little 3-4 year olds, with 2 coaches. The lessons are 30 minutes long, Colton cried for about the first 10 minutes. I think it was because he was cold and left with strangers w/o mom. I was worried they'd bump him down to the baby-2 year old class cause today they were evaluating everyone's abilities, and while the other kids in his group were dunking their heads, Colton would have to be sweet talked into getting his nose and chin in the water. He did seem to somewhat relax after awhile. So I think he'll be fine in another lesson or two.

I did notice, however, that when Coach Josh had him, he would listen without panicking, but that was about it. But when the girl coach got him once, I noticed a big smile on his face, cause she's one of those over-the-top with praise. Whereas Josh would try to console him, she would pretend he wasn't even scared.

After each "lap" for about three times, Colton would be sat back on the step and then ask if he could go back to mom, and I would see Josh tell him not yet. Poor guy kept looking at me for re-assurance, so I'd throw him a thumbs up and motion for him to hang out a little longer (it WAS torture for me not to go pat him on the back and sit beside him while he waited his turn).

Later I asked him what Coach Josh told him and he goes
C: "Can I go with my mom?"
J: "In a little bit buddy"
C: *whimpers* (yes, even in his story) "okay"
J: "we're not done yet, we're not friends yet, okay?"

Then Colton says, "I need to make friends with him so I stayed."

I didn't take my camera this time b/c I didn't know if parents would be getting in the water, but we don't so I'll take it on Thursday. Its every Tues & Thurs for 4 weeks. It was so cute! Our coaches lucked out, the other group had about 4 screaming kids, then on our side was just Colton asking for his mom and gasping for air when the water was cold! I'd say it went well. Oh, and he gets to stay in 3-5YO group. I was worried about him being putting with the "babies."
