Texas Mile

Well, feeling the itch of cabin fever and a great spring day. We loaded up the kid, filled the tank, and drove to Goliad, by way of Sinton and Beeville. There we attended an event called the Texas Mile, where car (and motorcycle) guys.. and quite a few girls!! raced down the Goliad County airport runways.

I was expecting to be bored out of my mind but tagged along because its something Cody loves... and so does HIS son. When we were waiting in line at the gate, Colton began crying to be let out of the carseat straps. He could hear all those cars going "Really, really fast" and could not stand sitting in line!! Then while searching for a parking spot, he would notice a car, then before he could finish shouting about it, another shiney one would catch his eye.

We watched several cars go down the track, several going over 200mph. Colton was pleased to see many mustangs (his favorite car- and he can point out ANY year model of a mustang rahter real or toy or photograph) and motorcycles. I was impressed to see how many biker GIRLS on sport bikes there were. And they were going 200mph at least!

He also got annoyed with me when he asked if we could go get our car and race. I told him that our car wasn't set up like these guys' and it wouldn't be good for our car to go that fast. He then tried bargaining by telling me "Daddy will be careful and I will be in my caaaaaaaarseat!" I told him I am glad he'd be safe, but we still couldn't join in. To which he replied "but it would be really, really, really fun! Look-at that car it goes REALLY fast!"

Then he spent the day telling me when he was big like daddy he'd have that motorcycle and this many cars and THEN he would race and I could take pictures. His love for speed kind of scares me. He really LOVES speed. ALOT.

We started out at the end of the track to see the cars at their fastest, but spent the rest of the time at the starting line. Colton learned to notice when the officials would say GO, and everyone would laugh at him saying READY, SET, GO GET OUT OF HERE!! Nearly every vehicle!

He also started observing the clock and exclaiming "WHOA BABY!"

I went in hopes of trying some new shots (and hopefully seeing one or two patches of bluebonnets- and yes, even dressed colton and myself for hopeful bluebonnet shots!)... but I pulled out my camera and aimed... nothing. It wouldn't work. Panicking first (b/c its a refurb camera)... I opened the battery door and wa-la. No battery. Where was it? On the computer desk- 70 miles away.

We were going to go back tomorrow, but decided not to after all. It was fun, even though I'm kicking myself still for making such a rookie mistake and leaving the battery at home.

Oh well. Maybe this fall we'll get rain, and I will have some bluebonnet pics to take next spring. I just miss them this year!

Darn. I skipped the reading to scroll down and see the pics first... Haha! Must be that pregnancy brain of yours - it's not your fault!
