Summer rewind, part 3!

July 4th, we found ourselves in Lincoln, New Mexico, home of the Billy the Kid escape! My dad had told Colton where we were going and he kept asking all about "Billy the Boy".  Lincoln was a really fun historical stop.  Many of the buildings were the same ones that were standing back in the cowboy days.  We toured the court house turned museum as well as the other museums in the little bitty town- all for one ticket price! There were little art studios wedged in between historical markers too!  We had a picnic lunch in a shady spot by the creek.  I didn't get many pictures here because it was a museum and all, but it was fun!

We were supposed to go to a 4th of July rodeo in Carrizozo, but the area got hit with some pretty heavy mountain thunderstorms, so we skipped that and headed out to the Valley of Fires.  It's a state park that has magma rocks (I think that's the right term) from some lava spouts.  They aren't active now, but have the capability and probability to spew lava again one day.  I think this was Colton's favorite place.  Go figure, a park full of rocks!

We finished off July 4th by eating a yummy in our tummy dinner at the Smokey Bear Restaraunt... we South Texans were very chilly when it was raining and cooled down into the 60s in the middle of the afternoon- that's just unheard of!!!

We spent Thursday at my parent's home, just recouperating from all of our sight-seeing.  Friday, we headed into Ruidoso, with plans of shopping, touring, and then horse races, but the horses didn't run that day, so we did everything else.  I wore shorts, sandals, and a tank top, because it is, after all JULY.  Yeah, I turned into a popsicle because it was raining and 60 degrees!!!! I am NOT used to mountain life.  My mom already has to take a sweater to work.. and it is August!

The boys did pony rides after we went shopping in midtown- which is like a mini Fredericksburg.  We wanted to go to the top of Sierra Blanca, but because of the recent wildfires, the mountain was closed.  We didn't get to see it at Christmas time because of too much snow either! Maybe next time!

Still not done with our tour of New Mexico!!!!
