We spent Christmas in Ruidoso, NM this year... quite an adventure for me and my little family!
We travelled there in my new (to me) car!! That's right folks, I finally got a new car... the poor old durango has only a little time left in it, so we had talked about getting a new car, somewhere around the summer time period, but weren't rushing it. I was casually browsing craiglist ads and saw this 2006 Expedition with less than 100,000 miles on it, only a few blemishes, for well under the blue book value. The longest part was getting all the paper work signed and dotted at the bank, but we got a wonderful deal and easy, affordable payments (even if I don't get a job in the near future). It's not the fancy, schmancy model, but it's a mechanically reliable vehicle that we don't have to worry about... and it's an expedition... I've wanted one for a very long time!

The boys did WONDERFUL on their very first out of state trip!! It took us 15 hours to get there, leaving Corpus at 4:15am. Interstate 10 is pretty boring, especially with the drought Texas has suffered this year. :( We wound up purchasing something we swore we never would, an in-car DVD player... but the boys did great... we watched 1 movie at a time, when they were really antsy, they didn't beg for it constantly! I'm proud of them for still enjoying the road trip with coloring books and looking out the windows!
When we got to Ruidoso, 6pm their time, it was dark, icy, and already at least 8 inches of snow on the ground! The poor expedition hardly made it up the hill to my parents' house! We got there, said our hellos, and gushed about the view, then bundled the boys up and played outside in the snow till about 8:30pm! THEN we had chicken soup for dinner to warm our tummies! The boys, and our dog Sheila, LOVED the snow!!!
