So we got to the first house and he said "trick or treat" kind of reluctantly, like his mother was forcing him to do it. He saw his candy, went to the next house and said "trick or treat" like he was testing to see if it worked again. Well, naturally it did, so he turns around runs down the sidewalk and tells me "MOMMA!! MORE CANDY, SEE!!!" I told him that it was good, and he says, "OKAY, go more houses, get more candy, COME ON MOMMA!" It was SOOO FUNNY!
So, we're walking along and he looks up at me and says "momma, I love trick or treat." It was so preciously innocent. I had stars in my eyes, I am sure. We went to this one house and these older ladies gave him extra candy cause he was just "so cute". He played with their dogs and then tipped his hat and said "howdy ma'am" to the ladies, they thought that was even cuter, so gave him more candy. I told him to say goodbye, he turns around, tips his hat to them, and says "goodnight ladies" and swaggered off down the street like the best Marlboro man or classic western movie star could have done. So...they gave him even MORE candy! And I PROMISE I did not teach him that.
He even fell asleep before we got home, to eat candy. I'm sure he will be asking to have a piece or two before breakfast in the morning. I might let him as well. ;-)
Here's hoping Cody can go with us next year. He has not been able to go at all since Colton was born. He could have gone tonight, but there was a football game that he had to work. =(
